Left on the d-pad allows you to highlight specific enemies and see, one at time, where their vision cone covers. You control whichever character you have selected directly with the left stick, there’s no mouse pointer here, you can crouch, interact with the environment, attack enemies and use items with the face buttons. They do a great job though and I got used to them and can’t say I could ever blame them for my errors. The controls actually take quite some getting used to as multiple actions are assigned to certain buttons and context pays a strong part in which actions you’ll be performing. In a mission you have an isometric view of the map and can pan, zoom and rotate the camera as you see fit to plan out your moves. There are cutscenes between each level and your characters chat throughout missions but the story itself is quite simple but works as a good excuse for a variety of missions. There are five characters and each has their own personality and skills to bring to the mission. You control a rag-tag group working for the Shogun, protecting him, his people and killing his enemies. Being a slower paced, strategy-stealth game you might think it an odd choice for a console port but that just makes it all the more impressive that it totally works.

Both the main game and expansion run on the Unity engine.Jin PS4 tagged blades of the shogun / japan / ninja / real time / samurai / shadow tactics / stealth / strategy by Gareth The graphics have a cartoonish style thanks to the use of cel-shading. Like the basic Shadow Tactics, Aiko's Choice has a very eye-pleasing graphic design. This is made up of three full-fledged missions and three shorter tasks that act as interludes. The expansion features a single player campaign only. After leaving the shadow mode they will execute their orders at the same moment. By activating it we can give orders to several units at once. One of the most important elements of the game is the shadow mode, thanks to which we can synchronize the actions of our characters.

During the alarm the guards carefully scour the area and receive support from additional patrols. If an enemy spots us or a body we have abandoned, they will raise the alarm.

The maps are full of interactive objects, which we can use to eliminate guards by posing as accidents. We can also place a marker on the map at any time and see which enemies are able to see it. Killed or stunned enemies can be moved to hide their bodies. Encountered guards have sight cones, showing their range of vision. The game is challenging but fair, allows for unlimited saving at almost any time, and never skimps on information. Gameplay is therefore based on completing levels silently, eliminating enemies from hiding or avoiding them. Moreover, the death of any of the playable characters means the end of the game. Despite their competence, the characters have no chance in an open fight with a larger group of enemies. For example, Aiko is a master of camouflage, she can disguise herself as a geisha and talk to enemies for diversionary purposes. We have several characters at our disposal, each with unique abilities. This is still a stealth, real-time strategy game. MechanicsĪiko's Choice doesn't significantly change the formula of the original game. Together with her friends, Aiko goes into battle against a new enemy with a strong connection to her former life. After saving Japan from the mysterious Kage-sama, the girl unexpectedly faces her past. The main heroine is kunoichi Aiko known from the previous game. The story continues the events shown in Shadow Tactics. The game takes place in 17th century Japan during the early Edo period. Unlike its predecessor, Aiko's Choice was released for PC only. The game is a standalone expansion to the well-received Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - Aiko's Choice is a tactical strategy game developed by Mimimi Games studio.
